RINGIER, the well-known Swiss publishing house, started its activity in Romania in 1992. Today, RINGIER ROMANIA SRL is one of the top publishing groups in the country. We do our best to satisfy our reader's exigent requirements and to remain a reliable business partner for our clients.

With a variety of publications addressed to specific targets we are able to speak to a large public.

In line with the Ringier Group's strategic focus towards digitalization, Ringier Romania has invested into online and has achieved top positions with its flagship website libertatea.ro. In the meantime, Ringier Romania continues to believe into traditional publishing and has recently inaugurated the best performing, state of the art printing plant in the country.



Ringier Romania History

Soon after the fall of communism, Ringier decides to start a business in Romania. The successful results obtained in neighbour countries and the market analysis encouraged Ringier management and shareholders to invest in Romania. The story starts with the launch of Capital, back in 1992.

1992Ringier enters Romania by launching the economic weekly Capital
1994Acquisition of a significant share of the daily newspaper Libertatea and the biggest women's magazine Lumea Femeilor
1996 Ringier establishes the legal entity - S.C. Ringier Romania SRL - to run its business operations
1997 Ringier Romania launches the women's magazine Unica
1998 Increasing of the market share: TV magazine TV mania launch, the economic magazine Succes and the regional paper Ziarul de Cluj
1999 - Acquisition of Gazeta Sporturilor, the national sports daily no. 2
- Closing of the regional paper Ziarul de Cluj in September
- Joint venture with Heinrich Bauer Verlag: publishing of the youth magazine Bravo and the women's magazine Povesti Adevarate
2000 Sale of Gazeta Sporturilor and the own distribution network, closing of the titles Succes and Povesti Adevarate and restructuring the company
2002 - Launch of the Sunday edition for Libertatea: Libertatea de Duminica
- Acquisition of the two TV magazines: TV Satelit & Telemagazin that placed Ringier in the top position on the TV guides market. Merger of Telemagazin with TV mania
- Acquisition of the sports daily ProSport
2003 Granting to Ringier Romania of the license for Bravo Girl! by the German publisher Bauer
Acquisition of Expres the company which at that time was the publisher of the title Evenimentul zilei.
2004 Launch of Bolero, monthly glossy pocket size magazine for women
2005 - The re-launch of Evenimentul Zilei - after a complex integration process - as a modern, independent and attractive reference newspaper with an up-dated concept
- Launch of the mass market weekly magazine Libertatea pentru femei after a successful international concept that has proved highly efficient
2006 Launch of the first free reference daily Compact in Bucharest in line with the European trend of free dailies targeted towards a young, dynamic public that is not yet a regular newspapers reader.
2007 - ProSport (the brand, the team and all the related assets) goes back to Publimedia; the acquisition contract is signed by the two parties in November and the effective transfer is to take place by mid January 2008.
- The Ringier Group decides to step out of the TV guides segment. As a result TV Mania and TV Satelit become the property of Bauer Media, continuing however to be managed by Ringier Romania.
2008 Launch of Diva, a weekly glossy magazine positioned on the people segment and targeting urban young women.
2009 - Closing of Compact, the free reference newspaper distributed in Bucharest.
- Inauguration of Ringier Print, the best performing, state of the art printing plant in the country.
- Launch of the women's portal unica.ro.
2010 - In the context of the international economic downturn and the extremely tough context, especially for media, Ringier decides to separate from Evenimentul zilei and Capital which were purchased by "Editura Evenimentul zilei and Capital" whose major shareholder is Bobby Paunescu.
- Closing of Diva.
